Excellent Upgrade Jun 30, 2008 Our Mag-Lite Flashlights are much brighter and their batteries will last til the cows come home.
a good low energy replacement Jun 24, 2008 I don't think it's brighter, but it's a good replacement as it uses less power for the same brightness. So for emergencies when you are out of power the led will last a long time but doesn't provide more light than the original bulb from maglite.
4D LED Conversion Jun 06, 2008 I keep a 4D MagLITE at home and carry a 2D in my car. I don't use either one often, but I wanted to extend the battery life as long as possible and not have to worry about burnt out bulbs either. I knew that Mag made conversion kits to change them to the LED variety, but I couldn't find them at any retailer, even those with a large supply of Mag products. Amazon had them and delivered them quickly. I converted both flashlights in less than a minute each. I didn't notice any reduction in the brightness of the flashlights, and an unscientific study of the beam patterns before and after seemed to say that the uniformity of the beam had actually improved. I'm quite happy with the purchases.

Even though it's the wrong one, still works great Dec 24, 2007 I purchased a 4-cell module but I have a 3-cell flashlight. The beam is still bright and focused. I wonder how well the correct module would work.

A Long Awaited and Welcome Maglite Upgrade! Jun 21, 2007 At long last Maglite has entered the LED age. I have 3 Maglite flashlights retrofitted with the LED modules, and they are great. Not only do they throw a beam a very long way, the ligtht is extremely bright, white, and easily focused. Add to the previous that with the LED module you won't be trhowing 40% the energy on heat, and you get much increased battery life. The only downside I can see is that you may have to take great pains to check your batteries for leakage periodically, as you will have a set of batteries in the flashlight for a good long time. Granted the module is not inexpensive, but it should last a lifetime, barring an electromagnetic pulse event. I will buy more of them and more flashlights for our cars. They will be a good thing to have in the event of car problems. All in all I would say that the retrofit LED module is a wise purchase.
